Episode Overview

Uncle Joe, the volunteer fire chief, has created a new alarm system for nighttime emergencies. When a fire occurs, residents can set off a skyrocket, prompting a volunteer to fire a cannon. However, the plan faces criticism due to damage caused by the cannon, even though it only shoots blanks. When a blaze erupts on the Cannonball, Joe has all the firefighting gear at the Shady Rest, leading Sam to call the Crabwell Corners Volunteer Fire Department for help. Joe challenges their chief, Bink Sharfells, to determine which department is superior. With no one from Hooterville willing to compete, it seems Joe will forfeit. Kate and her friends step in to assist, and the contest ends in a draw. To settle it, Joe proposes a game of checkers, but Bink unexpectedly loses to Dog.
