Episode Overview
When cloud cover prevents the 918th, led by Major Fitzsimmons, from bombing Kiel, they have to abort their mission, resulting in the loss of seven planes. Back at the base, Gallagher expresses his frustration to General Britt, who introduces a solution: a new Group Weather Officer, Captain Patricia Bates. A former Meteorology Professor at UIT, she brings a fresh perspective to weather forecasting. During dinner with her and her assistant, Lieutenant Rogers, Gallagher learns more about her methods. The next day, Gallagher flies in Weather 1, a modified B-17 designed for speed, with Rogers as the meteorologist. The mission faces trouble when the plane is hit, injuring Rogers. After a rough landing, Bates considers quitting, but Britt insists Gallagher convince her to continue. She ultimately joins Captain Blodget on the next mission, navigating through the storm, but the plane becomes iced up and must ditch in the channel. Gallagher sets out to find her, successfully locating her after the ordeal
