Episode Overview
After five months as a POW, 1st Lieutenant Wally Bolen returns to the 918th, where he is greeted warmly by Komansky and promoted to Captain by Gallagher. A welcome back party is held at the officer's club, featuring Bolen’s "girl" Ruth, journalist Ken Shaw, and his friend Chuck Nielson, along with Captains Lewis and Stewart, former fighter pilots. Eager to get back in the air, Bolen is cleared by Gallagher to fly again. As they prepare for a bombing mission over Battenheim, Gallagher selects Bolen as Flight Leader, teaming him with Lewis and Stewart. During a practice run, Bolen instructs the others to tighten their formation, but Stewart's plane collides with Bolen's, causing chaos.
