S03E11 Burden of Guilt
Episode Overview
Major General Fox is pressuring Brigadier General Doud to strike the Sub Pens at Nordensholm. After three attempts that missed their marks, Doud, as Wing Commander, takes the blame and promises to succeed. Colonel Hollenbeck has been in charge of the 52nd Bomb Group, but Doud reassigns him to G-3 and sends him to the 918th to prepare for the Nordensholm mission. Hollenbeck, wanting to command the operation, delays calling Gallagher back from leave. When Gallagher returns, Doud decides to let Hollenbeck lead. They finally hit a target, but it’s not the Sub Pens. The reconnaissance plane, piloted by Majors Werth and Stovall, gets shot down, killing Werth. Stovall disobeys orders to photograph a submarine departing from a different location, resulting in another shootdown that loses the camera and film along with four crew members. Stovall and five others are later rescued
