Ren and Bobby are studying at the Stevens' house and are just about to share a kiss when her father, Steve Stevens, unexpectedly walks in, clearly intent on keeping them apart. He shares his "exciting" news about a guest lecture on birds he’ll be giving in Ms. Lovelson's Life Science class. The following day, Ruby informs Ren that Mandy "Always Gets Her Man" Sanchez has a crush on Bobby. After a cringe-worthy presentation, Mr. Stevens invites the class on a birdwatching trip to Devil Mountain. Bobby volunteers, quickly followed by Ren, Mandy, Ruby, and Nelson.
