Bill Nye the Science Guy (1993)
S01E08 Phases of Matter
Episode Overview
Join Bill Nye as he explores the fascinating world of matter and its different states in the episode "States of Matter." Discover the unique characteristics of solids, liquids, and gases! Everything we encounter is composed of matter, which is all made up of atoms. Matter exists in three main states: solids like rocks, cookies, and desks; liquids such as water, honey, and juice; and gases, including the air we breathe and helium-filled balloons. The primary distinction among these states lies in the movement of atoms. Atoms possess energy, and the greater the energy, the faster they move. In ice, atoms are nearly stationary, while liquid water allows atoms to glide freely, making it pourable. In contrast, the atoms in water vapor zip around quickly, floating in the air along with other gases.
