Lester's former boss pays a visit to the Jenkins from Hawaii, and Rose takes the opportunity to hire him as the building's repairman, giving him a small apartment on the third floor. Pearl soon realizes that visitors to Lou's place are disappearing, prompting her and Mary to investigate. They discover that Lou is actually homeless and has welcomed his fellow homeless friends into his apartment after losing everything when his business in Hawaii failed. Mary feels compassion for them and secretly provides food, hoping to shield Rose from the truth, knowing she would have to evict them due to housing regulations. Meanwhile, Lester learns about an abandoned building his company can renovate to provide a new home for the homeless, offering Lou a chance to restart his business.
