Overview
Set against the backdrop of 19th century Britain, Middlemarch explores the transformative yet tumultuous era of the Industrial Revolution. In this provincial town, Dorothea Brooke longs for intellectual depth within a restrictive, male-oriented society, leading her to an ill-fated marriage with the much older scholar Casaubon. Their honeymoon takes an unexpected turn when she meets his charming cousin, Will Ladislaw. Meanwhile, ambitious Doctor Lydgate arrives with new medical ideas, stirring up political tensions. He finds himself captivated by the enchanting but troubled Rosamond Vincy, whose challenges threaten to unravel his aspirations.
