Dr. Lydgate finds himself in dire financial straits as his possessions are being taken away. Meanwhile, his wife Rosamond has secretly reached out to his uncle Godwin, pleading for £1000. However, instead of assisting Rosamond, Godwin chooses to confront Lydgate directly, responding with a tone that is both condescending and critical.
