Episode Overview
Ben and Joe take a break in Los Robles for some beers and a place to sleep. While there, Ben witnesses the local boss, John Walker, harassing a saloon waitress and steps in to help her. However, when he exits the saloon, Walker shoots him in the back. Though gravely injured, Ben retaliates and kills Walker before losing consciousness. As Joe keeps watch over Ben, the priest reveals that Walker and his son Jed have long held tyrannical control over the town. Jed soon threatens Joe, demanding Ben be turned over within a day or he will begin killing townsfolk, one each hour. Matters worsen when Walker's foreman, Garth, misleads Jed by claiming Ben shot Walker in the back, hoping to provoke Joe into killing Walker himself so he can seize control of the ranch.
