Episode Overview
Billy Horne, a white man who was taken by the Shoshone at the age of six, unexpectedly shows up at Ben and Joe's campsite one night. They capture him and decide to bring him to town. Sheriff Roy Coffee suggests locking Billy up for protection, but Ben offers to take him to the Ponderosa instead. They buy him new clothes and soon develop a friendship. However, Milton Tanner challenges the legitimacy of the Ponderosa deed, trying to claim a third of the land. When Billy confronts Tanner at his ranch, he threatens him. Tanner unleashes his dog, but Billy defends himself, killing the dog and Tanner as he reaches for a gun. Though he pleads guilty, Billy manages to escape. Ultimately, he returns with Joe to reveal the truth about the incident.
