Episode Overview
Meg is thrilled when Bandstand regular Jimmy Riley asks her to dance, but he quickly gets pulled away by another regular, Teresa. Meanwhile, J.J. makes a quiet comeback to the football team. Henry's son, Sam, earns a track scholarship to predominantly white East Catholic, prompting Jack to invite him for dinner to meet J.J., as they're both part of the track team now. Teresa warns Meg to be cautious around Jimmy. J.J. feels disheartened to learn that Beth has applied to Stanford, while Helen searches for a suitable class at Temple. Rumors circulate about Meg and Jimmy's relationship, which Roxanne views positively, seeing it as a sign of Meg's rising popularity. J.J. overhears Beth's father making disparaging remarks about him to his country-club friends. Eventually, Meg agrees to go on her first date with Jimmy, while J.J. excels in his football return.
