Episode Overview
As a young girl in Poland, Marie Curie quickly shows her intelligence, unlike her sister Bronya, who struggles with the mandatory Russian language needed for university. When Bronya prepares to attend the University of Warsaw, they discover that Polish women are barred from higher education. Determined, Marie excels at a clandestine university and devises a plan to study at the Sorbonne in Paris. While working as a governess to support Bronya's medical studies, Marie eventually enrolls at the Sorbonne herself, earning two master's degrees in physics and mathematics. After marrying Pierre Curie, he advocates for her recognition, but she initially serves as his assistant due to gender barriers. Following Pierre's tragic death, Marie recalls her vow to continue their shared dream and accepts a position as the Sorbonne's first female physics professor, paving the way for future generations.
