Episode Overview

Set in 1589 Pisa, Italy, Galileo, a university professor, boldly challenges Aristotle's doctrines, aware that his views could lead to charges of heresy. He asserts that the sun, not the Earth, is the universe's center. By enhancing a simple toy, the spyglass, he creates a telescope that reveals Jupiter's moons, providing crucial evidence against the geocentric model. His friend Clavius persuades him to sign a pledge not to dispute Aristotle publicly, allowing him to continue his teachings. However, envious Columbe forges the document, adding a clause that silences Galileo entirely. Found guilty of heresy, he is placed under house arrest, with his loyal servant Sagredo by his side. Following Galileo's death, Sagredo secretly transports his writings to Holland for publication.
