Episode Overview

To explore Martha Washington's bedroom, Norm must enlist the help of the Ladies of Mount Vernon, who maintain the historic mansion along the Potomac River. While not part of the official tour, the Ladies kindly guide him to seldom-seen areas of the estate. In Martha's third-floor bedroom, which she occupied after George's passing, Norm discovers an exquisite candlestand positioned by the bed. Upon closer examination, he notes its intricate design, featuring a unique "birdcage" mechanism that allows the tabletop to rotate and fold for easy storage. Before departing, Norm collaborates with historical woodworker William Jewell to acquire some cherry wood from a fallen tree on the estate.
