Miss Hathaway's clever yet dowdy bank protégé, Gloria (Lola Albright), is actually a cunning gold digger with her sights set on Jed's $34 million fortune. After receiving his yearly dose of Granny's spring tonic, Jed finds himself the target of her charm. Pearl and Granny are somewhat wary of Gloria's intentions. When she insists that she must marry a mountain man, Jed sees through her plan and agrees it’s a fine idea—though he adds she’ll need to wait three to four years until Jethro is old enough.
