Lafe Crick, a notorious freeloader from Jed's hometown, exploits Jed's generosity in hopes of cashing in on the Clampett fortune. He cleverly tricks Mr. Drysdale into hiring him at the bank to safeguard Jed's money. However, when Lafe discovers that a significant portion of Jed's wealth isn't stored at the bank, he becomes convinced that Jed has stashed it away behind the mansion.
