Before his life was torn apart, mercenary Al Simmons ventured deep into the jungle to locate Major Forsberg, a soldier who sought refuge in a hidden temple to escape the brutality of war. Tasked by Jason Wynn, Simmons was ordered to bring Forsberg back alive if possible, or dead if necessary, regardless of their friendship. Without hesitation, Simmons betrays his friend. Cogliostro tells Spawn that these memories are significant, marking pivotal points in Al Simmons' fate as a pawn of Malebolgia. While Spawn insists he was unaware of Wynn's true intentions for Forsberg, Cogliostro understands the truth. Unbeknownst to them, Wynn has kept Forsberg alive in an opium den, imprisoned and decaying. Now, Wynn visits the major, seeking information about a powerful mask that was in the temple when Forsberg was captured—the war mask of Genghis Khan.
