Episode Overview

In 1761, Catherine arrives in Russia and ascends to the role of Empress by marrying Peter, the Emperor. Initially dreaming of a passionate romance, she quickly discovers that Peter is a self-absorbed child who opposes her ideals. Despairing and contemplating suicide, Catherine's perspective shifts when her servant, Marial, offers her a different option: to take down Peter and seize power for herself.
