Catherine, Orlo, and Marial persist in their conspiracy as they seek to enlist the disgruntled General Velementov during the festivities commemorating Peter’s late father, Peter the Great. Observing Catherine's discontent within the palace, Peter presents her with Leo, a lover who cannot father children. Initially reluctant, Catherine finds herself captivated by Leo's charm, which complicates her emotions further.
