As the Keaton family prepares for the start of the new school year, Alex boasts to Jennifer about his high school triumphs just as she is about to begin, while also coaching Andrew on clever strategies for dominating kindergarten. He then heads off to the Leland campus for a psychology study focused on overachievers. Responding to an ad for participants, Alex arrives for his first interview with Lauren Miller, an attractive senior Psychology major who runs the study. Tensions flare between them as Alex insists on his financial expectations, while Lauren passionately critiques the hollow, materialistic mindset of overachievers like him.
