Episode Overview

Steven is back in one of his infamous "magician phases," eager to involve the entire family in his magic tricks. During this time, they receive a visit from Evelyn Mitchum, a former neighbor from New York, whose daughter Rosalie was Mallory’s close friend in junior high. The family is happy to see Evelyn, but the conversation takes a somber turn as they remember Rosalie, who tragically took her own life a year prior. Sensing Evelyn's need for support, Elyse subtly tries to encourage her to share her feelings, but it doesn’t go as planned. As Evelyn increasingly focuses her attention on Mallory—taking her out for lunch and trips to the mall and museum—Elyse grows concerned that Mallory is stepping into Rosalie's shoes for Evelyn. She warns Mallory about the potential emotional fallout, but Mallory insists she can manage the situation on her own.
