The thirteenth season of The Amazing Race kicks off as eleven teams arrive at the Los Angeles Coliseum in vintage cars. After getting their first set of instructions, they rush to gather clues that lead them to book one of two flights to Salvador, Brazil. While many are eager to catch the earlier flight, they face disappointment when a delay cuts their anticipated lead by an hour and a half. Upon arrival, the teams head to a sandwich shop named O Rei Do Pernil, where they're tasked with acting as traditional baristas. They deliver a cart to a man named India at a coffee shop called Par?ca de Se, who then sends them to a Brazilian military base for the night. The teams depart in three groups the next morning, finding a church in Pelourinho and encountering a Detour that presents a choice between two tasks.
