Overton and Synclaire's engagement party takes a downturn when her feuding parents drop the bombshell that they are separating. As Synclaire starts to have doubts about her own future, Overton insists that her parents sort through their issues. Lilah confesses she’s grown weary of her husband's jokes and has kept her dream of becoming a lounge singer hidden due to her fear of Clinton's mockery. He promises to support her aspirations, leading them to realize their challenges are solvable. Meanwhile, Regine attempts to use the celebration to catch Max and Kyle together, prompting Max to suggest they both bring fake dates. However, Max feels frustrated when Kyle shows up with a glamorous friend from Los Angeles, while she's stuck with the dull Teddy. In a moment of vulnerability, Max takes Kyle aside to reveal her jealousy, just as Regine unexpectedly interrupts their conversation.
