Episode Overview

Sgt. Cryer leads half of the relief team on Sun Hill's yearly fishing trip. Meanwhile, P.C. Smith and D.C. Dashwood head out to serve a warrant on Russell Archer for failing to appear in court regarding a poaching charge. Archer manages to evade capture, later threatening a milkman with a sawn-off shotgun. He then robs a bookmakers and a greengrocer, prompting P.C. Carver and P.C. Frank to pursue him. During the chase, Frank is shot and injured, while Archer takes an elderly woman hostage at a retirement village. With the fishing trip called off, D.S. Roach oversees the standoff until D.I. Galloway and Ch. Supt. Brownlow arrive. Communication with the increasingly volatile Archer breaks down until he requests to speak to Sgt. Cryer, whom he recognized from the betting shop. Cryer enters the flat in an attempt to negotiate Archer's surrender, while W.P.C. Ack
