Episode Overview

After officially joining the Marines, Sledge undergoes rigorous training at Camp Elliott. The 1st Marine Division arrives at Cape Gloucester, confronting the Japanese forces on the island of New Britain. As Leckie and his fellow Marines engage in fierce combat, they discover that the dense, oppressive jungle poses a greater threat than the enemy. Having endured the challenges at Gloucester and now stationed on the harsh island of Pavuvu, Leckie begins to show signs of the toll that war has taken on him physically and mentally, leading to his transfer to a naval facility on the nearby island of Banika for psychological evaluation.
