While in Los Angeles for ESPY week, Derwin receives a surprise endorsement deal and enjoys the moment with Drew Sidora, who guest stars as herself, while Melanie is preoccupied with her studies back in San Diego. Meanwhile, Malik unexpectedly encounters an old girlfriend, Renee, played by guest star Kendra C. Johnson. As their chemistry reignites and she expresses a desire to be seen together publicly, Malik hesitates due to her weight. Torn between his feelings, he turns to Tasha for guidance on how to navigate his emotions regarding Renee.
