Episode Overview
Ash faces off against Paul in a one-on-one battle, with Paul selecting Honchkrow and Ash opting for Turtwig. Despite Turtwig's efforts, Honchkrow corners it, leading to a surprise evolution into Grotle. Unfortunately, Grotle's newfound form sacrifices its speed, resulting in a defeat to Honchkrow. Paul then casually mentions that he has already secured the Hearthome City gym badge. Later, Brock confronts Paul about meeting his brother Reggie regarding a missing Frontier Brain symbol, shedding light on Paul's intense drive to be the best. That night, Grotle struggles to regain its agility, but is comforted by Paul's Torterra, which teaches Grotle that strength also lies in defense. Torterra demonstrates this by withstanding a Steel Wing from Ash's Gliscor, leaving Grotle feeling reassured and returning to its usual self.
