Episode Overview

Roseanne Dore, a widow raising three daughters, faces immense challenges after their home in Kingston, Washington, was tragically destroyed by a fire in March 2004. Compounding their loss, Roseanne learned that their home insurance had lapsed when their agent retired, leaving them with an uninhabitable structure. In the wake of this disaster, she moved her daughters—21-year-old Jessica, 17-year-old Sarah, and 13-year-old Aariel—into a makeshift living space in a half-finished utility shed without plumbing or electricity. The girls often relied on friends for showers and endured using a doorless outhouse. Their primary hope for a new home was simply having indoor plumbing and proper bedrooms. When not cooking on a propane camp stove outside, the family prepared their meals inside the shed.
