S03E09 The Johnson Family
Episode Overview
Tripp and Heidi Johnson welcomed their youngest son, William, in 1999, despite doctors predicting he wouldn't survive past two years due to Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Now at six, William is a vibrant presence, relying on a motorized scooter for mobility since he cannot walk or stand. His older siblings, Abby and Matthew, have chosen to forgo birthday gifts, instead asking for donations to support SMA research. Recognizing the need for a more accessible home, the family began renovations, which led to an accident where a wall collapsed on Heidi's father. Thankfully, he was unharmed, but it emphasized their need for help. With the assistance of Ty and his team from EM:HE, they created a fully accessible farmhouse for William, complete with a lift to the second floor. Additionally, the family, avid Boston Red Sox fans, now enjoys a baseball diamond and a remote-operated scoreboard in their backyard.
