When Karen declined the role, Neil had no choice but to appoint Sylvia as wing governor. Both were taken aback when prison inspectors arrived at the gate, and their shock deepened upon discovering the disastrous state of the canteen. In the gym, Shaz arranged a fight with Al, but at the last moment, Maxi stepped in to take Al’s place, eager to reclaim her reputation. Mark learned that Buki's baby was alive and had been adopted. Meanwhile, Babs grew increasingly close to Henry, the new prison vicar. After a crushing defeat by Shaz, Maxi tragically took her own life with Al's assistance, using tissue paper to suffocate herself. As inspections loomed, Sylvia enlisted the Julies to help her hide Maxi’s body from the inspectors. Neil informed Jim that he would promote Mark to a better position at another prison, but only if Mark asked “very nicely.”
