Eleanor gifts her mother a controversial diamond necklace from the Raj, which holds deep sentimental value for Charlotte. During the high-profile gift exchange, Richard is pleased to see his mother finally join them, but Sir Iain points out her choice of jewelry may anger the Indians. The following day, newspapers call for the diamond's return to India, leaving Sir Iain furious over the potential damage to diplomatic relations—this visit is crucial. Richard is dissatisfied with the Foreign Office's formal speech, and Abi insists that keeping the diamond isn't feasible, though ultimately, the decision is his. Concerned for Charlotte, he asks her to revise the speech, while Abi encourages him to honor his mother. Richard, however, questions whether he should return the diamond at all.
