Vanessa chats away in French with her fashion photographer boyfriend, while Mark attempts to decipher her words. After ending her relationship, Vanessa heads to a jazz club where Robin's father, Chip Dumars, a talented jazz musician, is visiting. At the club, Vanessa tries to catch the attention of a saxophonist. Chip wows the audience with his singing, but Robin is not thrilled about being called "baby girl" by him. They perform together on stage, and Chip expresses his desire for Robin to pursue a career in jazz. Mark persuades Chip to attend Robin's music class, promising her a duet with him at the club the next day. However, the class struggles with their singing, and both Mark and Chip end up disrupting the session, revealing the connection between rap and jazz. Robin feels her father is overstepping, while Vanessa's date brings along his child, who is curious and full of questions about her age and more.
