Meanwhile, with Kyle's assistance, Maxine searches the city for a runaway gay teenager, ultimately deciding to let him stay at her home until she can find him a new foster placement. Amy faces a dilemma over a teenager who wrote a controversial play about violence and made unsettling jokes, questioning if he poses a societal risk. Maxine's frustration with Brian's management of Teen Harbor boils over when she witnesses a drug deal there, leading her to shut it down, much to Kyle's anger. As Bruce works on a recommendation for a mother hoping to regain custody of her children after battling alcoholism, he grows suspicious of her sobriety and enlists Andrea to help him keep an eye on her.
