Elena is determined to honor Bonnie’s birthday, persuading Jeremy that it’s what Bonnie would have wanted. Together with Damon, they manage to reconstruct the shattered ascendant in hopes of sending Bonnie a message, but things take a troubling turn when they uncover something unsettling. Meanwhile, Enzo, having learned about Stefan's great-niece Sarah Salvatore, ropes an unwilling Matt into helping him meddle in her life. At the same time, Stefan keeps a watchful eye on Caroline as she navigates her unusual way of dealing with the chaos around her. Finally, Jeremy starts to consider leaving Mystic Falls for good, feeling it might be time to move on.
