Episode Overview
Between June and August 1944, the monumental D-Day invasion occurs on June 6, with 1.5 million Allied forces launching the largest assault in history. However, progress is hampered as they become entrenched in the dense hedgerows of Normandy for several weeks. Meanwhile, the battle for Saipan marks the most devastating conflict in the Pacific thus far. Back in the United States, families receive a heartbreaking influx of telegrams from the War Department, delivering devastating news at an alarming pace.
