A man is murdered in what looks like a mob assassination. During the investigation, the sole witness, a young girl named Lisa, is placed under Nick's protection. This responsibility brings back memories for Nick of a boy he and his Old Friends looked after during World War II in England, forcing him to confront the consequences of his immortality and inability to have children.
