Byker Grove is getting a fresh coat of paint, and Matt is part of the crew tasked with the job. However, the peace is short-lived when he spots Craig and rushes toward him, despite Paul urging the others to leave Matt alone. Fortunately, Ben steps in just in time to prevent a confrontation. In another twist, Stumpy has embraced a new racing trend—hamster racing—and he challenges Robert from Denwell Burn to a showdown. Amidst the chaos, Ben is caught off guard as Nikki and Stella secretly arrange for him and Claire to come to the Grove for a farewell. They finally admit their feelings for each other, but just as Claire decides against joining her parents in Tenerife, she stumbles upon Ben and Nikki in a compromising situation.
