Beneath a mass of bodies, police uncover not only additional bones but also a jar filled with leeches, a discovery that triggers memories of Kai, Maggie's long-lost brother, for both Roland Voit and Maggie Kring. Kai was a remarkable and enigmatic child, and Maggie struggles to accept that he might be dead, clinging to the hope that she’s found evidence of his existence. She turns to Adrian Demko for assistance. Confined to a wheelchair after a childhood accident involving an unexploded World War II bomb, Adrian asks his caregiver, Marek Gorski, to accompany Maggie on a journey across the border into Poland. Their search leads to a shadowy building near the border, where tragedy strikes and Maggie is killed.
