Maria is excited to receive a car for her 16th birthday, but she's struggling in Driver's Ed. Desperate to pass, she convinces Screech to help her out, despite his reservations. Meanwhile, Ryan is determined to get a car to impress Lindsay and challenge Tommy. He comes up with the idea of pooling money and rallies Rachel, R.J., and a mix of nerds, jocks, and band members to pitch in. When they still fall short by $600, Ryan enlists a wealthy classmate, Arthur, using Rachel to entice him, which frustrates her. Later, while driving with her friends, Maria accidentally crashes into Mr. Belding's car. In a bid to cover for her mistake, Ryan and the gang buy a similar vehicle while Mr. Belding's is being repaired. However, the other contributors demand their chance to use the new car.
