Episode Overview

As football season approaches, Eric is putting in the effort to secure his spot as the starting wide receiver. Coach Wagner emphasizes the need for the team to maintain their academic performance. Eric beams with pride when he learns he’ll be starting against Central High. However, when Coach Wagner discovers he's enrolled in a physics class, he advises Eric to drop it to play it safe. Considering quitting, Eric speaks with teammate Perkins, who reveals the coach hasn’t suggested he drop physics. Eric suspects that the coach believes he’ll struggle more due to his race. He later confronts Coach Wagner about his bias and shares his feelings with friends Ryan and Nicky. During the game against Central, Coach Wagner discusses respect with Eric, but Eric remains unresponsive and sits out for the remainder of the match. The following day, Eric visits Screech to talk things over.
