Episode Overview

During a parent-teacher night, Andrew, a sixth-grade teacher, witnesses a simple game spiral into chaos when divorced parents Martin and Janet clash over who knows their son, John, better. The argument leaves John feeling embarrassed in front of his peers, and he silently copes with his sadness while Tess and Monica observe from a distance. As Andrew grows closer to John, he becomes aware of the emotional strain in John's life, split between his mother and her new husband, Phil, and weekends with his father. Their interactions are fraught with tension and veiled insults. One weekend, while enjoying pizza with Martin, John unexpectedly encounters Andrew and Monica, who presents herself as an "advocate" for those in need.
