Episode Overview

Eleven-year-old Corey Taylor hangs out at a nearby newsstand and notices a locket hanging by the register. He swipes it right in front of everyone and bolts before being caught. Alice Dupree, the attendant, reports the theft to the police. Officer Monica arrives to gather details. Alice hands her a photo of the thief from the security footage and describes the heart-shaped locket as a cherished family heirloom from her mother. When Monica visits Corey’s school, she learns he’s an orphan with a heart condition, but Alice remains unswayed, eager to reclaim her locket. Monica later finds Corey at the arcade and suggests he return the locket himself, but when he fails to show, Alice grows frustrated with Monica’s trusting approach, reinforcing her belief that trust only leads to disappointment.
