A string of suicides among affluent socialites aligns with a strange jewel heist involving a gigantic Indian who vanishes when confronted. Kolchak dives into the case and discovers that this Indian is a "diablero," a cursed medicine man from the cliffs, doomed to roam the earth in pursuit of a never-ending collection of jewels. This diablero possesses the ability to transform into a coyote or crow and can mesmerize anyone with its gaze. To stop it, Carl must track down the diablero in the highest location possible and use its own hypnotic power against it.
