Episode Overview

Monica is the personal assistant to the renowned journalist Elizabeth Jessup, who soon reveals she struggles with heavy drinking. At her granddaughter Beth's birthday celebration, Liz overindulges, leading her daughter Sydney to take Beth home early. Later, at the Mayor's Centennial kick-off, Liz embarrasses herself while attempting to deliver a speech. In response, Sydney organizes an intervention with the support of Anita, a counselor from the New Hope Center, but it backfires, resulting in a furious Liz kicking everyone out. The following day, Monica learns that Liz began drinking to fit in with her male colleagues and persuades her to visit the New Hope Center. However, Liz's meeting with Anita ends in anger as she storms out. Despite Sydney's decision to keep Beth away from her grandmother, the little girl sneaks out to see Liz.
