Episode Overview

At 83, Ross Berger, a successful gym chain owner, attributes his recovery from a stroke to his own strength and determination, seeing himself as a self-made man who believes religion is a crutch for the weak. In contrast, his son Alan, a respected college professor, upholds his Jewish faith and heritage. Alan's son, Aaron, who is preparing for his bar mitzvah, admires his grandfather's physical prowess more than his father's spiritual beliefs. Meanwhile, Monica and Tess assist Ross in creating an exercise video for stroke survivors, while Andrew teaches Aaron Hebrew, emphasizing the responsibilities that come with manhood. Alan's wife, Connie, worries about Ross's influence on Aaron and is increasingly alarmed by Alan's recurring dizzy spells, one leading to a serious car accident. When Alan learns he has a rapidly advancing brain tumor, he opens up about his fears.
