Mama's Family (1983)

Episode Overview

In a rush to get to a mall sale, Mama pushes Fran to finish her meal. Just before they can leave, Fran receives a call from her newspaper boss, insisting she come in to re-edit her latest article. This frustrates Mama, who can't drive and is upset about missing the sale. Adding to the chaos, Vinton, Mama's son, arrives to share that he and his kids, Sonja and Buzz, have been evicted and need a place to stay. Despite Fran's objections, Mama welcomes them. Vinton takes the basement, Buzz the attic, and Sonja claims Fran's writing studio, causing a huge fight between the two women. Things escalate when Fran discovers Sonja has read her unfinished book, leading Fran to declare she'll move out due to the stress. Unbeknownst to Mama, Fran had been using her studio to write. Eventually, after a heartfelt conversation, Fran reconsiders and decides to stay.
