Our host arrives to see the master carpenter unpacking brand new stationary woodworking tools for the workshop. They take a moment to appreciate the barn, recently shingled with a panelized system that the general contractor claims saved him nearly two weeks of work. Meanwhile, at the main house, the crew is busy shingling the low-pitch roof over the media room, ensuring they first apply a waterproof membrane to the deck. Inside, renovations in the dining room are underway, as they use engineered I-joists to level the ceiling and bolster the floor above, removing old floorboards to fix the rotted subfloor with more I-joists and new plywood. Our host chats with chefs Julia Child and Marian Morash in the kitchen about the layout, work surfaces, islands, tables, and flooring choices. Back at the workshop, the team assembles the deck using an undermount system and decking made from recycled plastic bags and sawdust while exploring the new tools.
