Episode Overview
This episode highlights the interdependent relationships among various species. Spotted deer trail behind langur monkeys, benefiting from the fallen leaves as the monkeys forage above. In exchange, the deer act as sentinels while the monkeys eat on the ground. Beneath the waves, a hermit crab adorns its shell with sea anemones for added protection against octopus attacks, while a goby lends its vision to a nearly blind shrimp. In contrast, fleas, lice, and mites exemplify parasitism, exploiting their hosts without mutual benefit. Yet, predators of these parasites exist, such as Galápagos finches that remove ticks from giant tortoises and oxpeckers that do the same for giraffes, using their fur for nesting materials.
