Episode Overview
Despite the turmoil, Paris remains devoted to Helen, disregarding all else. Meanwhile, a strange plague has been plaguing the Greek camp for several days. Calchas, the seer, reveals to the gathered kings that Apollo unleashed this curse as punishment for Agamemnon's capture of Chryseis, the daughter of a priest who sought the god's help. Achilles insists that Agamemnon must return Chryseis to her father. Agamemnon reluctantly agrees but demands Briseis, Achilles’ beloved, as recompense. Infuriated, Achilles vows to withdraw from battle and isolates himself. Seeking help, his mother Thetis approaches Zeus, who, recalling a past love, decides to aid the Trojans and sends Agamemnon a deceptive dream.
